Capacity Management - 5

 So far we are looking into the IT capacity planning, how WBS and GANTT chart make all the tasks in events, make it visually appealable which makes easily understand for project manager or the team members or stake holders.

 

Also we found that, we can easily map the Total float 0 by automating through the MS Project or Primavera tool., through Gantt chart. So today we are going to look the Resource scheduling, Resource levelling, optimizing resources to help the project to succeed. We are going to use these techniques to utilize resources optimally. Methods like PERT, CPM, Gantt chart, WBS are used for waterfall and agile methodologies.

 

Later we are going to look into the resource management for Scrum methodologies which is key tool for Agile methodologies for preparing for iteration. Especially as we are doing capacity planning we need to know these techniques to excel in the project.

 

About resource management, early Romans and Egyptians had a contract with labors, materials and time of the work. This is where actual resource management started. Post WWI and WWII there are more demand for industrial products like manufacturing products. One of the demand which impacted the motor industry is selling T model cars from Ford Industry. By that time, Toyota brought lean management to minimize the waste and time to manufacture the car.

 

But Winslow Taylor had different idea than others. He went behind each worker, materials how much time they are taking for do the each task. Because the car Assembly made in same place where all production employees together to prepare the car manufacturing. But Taylor introduced the relay method, inspection, QA, which made the product delivery faster and also in line with quality.

 

It surpasses the demand, T model car become historic victory for Ford.
